It will come as no surprise to learn that we have had the Cottage in lockdown since mid-March and the question as to when we might re-open has been frequently discussed at Committee. With the situation being ever changing we cannot commit to an opening date so it will be closed for the foreseeable future. Bowerman’s presents a unique set of challenges in terms of one-way systems and social distancing that might be easier in other properties but in Bowerman’s is almost impossible. We value the health of our visitors but we equally value the health of our Housekeeping Team and other Committee members and keeping Bowerman’s closed is the only current option to keep everybody safe. We are also mindful of the financial hardship that all age ranges of Guiding are facing at this time and opening Bowerman’s at the wrong time will inevitably mean that we will incur higher than normal cleaning costs which, in order for us to remain financially viable, can only be passed on to our hard-pressed users. In addition, we await guidance from Girl Guiding UK and the Government on the subject of residential and overnight stays which are currently not allowed.
However, we are using this down time to improve the cottage and we have already carried out quite a few improvements and have more plans in the pipeline. Once all these are complete, we will let you know. We have listened to your responses to the survey questions and where there is a clear majority in favour of a suggestion, we have acted on that.
The web site will also be changed so please bear with us while the Committee decides on what those changes might be and when we can get them implemented
