This area is renowned for its 2 beautiful rivers, its stunning coastline and its quaint seaside villages. Appledore, a historic fishing village, has Victorian cottages in narrow cobbled streets, and is a popular place for crabbing. Its friendly RNLI Lifeboat station welcomes group visits.  Clovelly is famous for its steep, cobbled street and harbour, where donkeys and carts are still used to transport items up the street that is too steep for cars. Westward Ho! has an imposing 3km long Pebble Ridge. Its 3km of golden sand and surf makes it an ideal location for kiting and other adrenaline-filled water sports. The North Devon Coastal Path has a varied landscape – from the flats of the river estuaries to the rugged coastlines of Clovelly and Hartland.

Inspired by book Tarka The Otter by Henry Williamson, The Tarka Trail is an 180 mile, figure-of-eight loop exploring all the diversity and beauty North Devon has to offer. Bike hire is available from Fremington Quay or Bideford for easy and safe cycle rides.

Bideford and Torrington are the two main towns of this area. Bideford is a historic port with its famous Long Bridge. There are regular ferry crossings to Lundy Island from Bideford Quay and water sports take place along its riverbank. Torrington is steeped in the history of the Civil War, as explained by a visit to the Heritage Museum. It is famous for its traditions and festivals including its famous Mayday Festival. Dartington Crystal offers interesting factory tours to experience the traditional craft of glass making. Its glass shop, the largest in the UK, also hold children’s craft sessions.

Nearby are several tourist attractions including the award winning The Big Sheep, The Milky Way and North Devon Wake Park for the more adrenaline loving adventurers.
