The Role of the International Adviser
My role is to support you in all things International - from planning your trip abroad to holding an International evening in your unit. I can help with the processing of forms, support for group leaders and participants. I also have information and resources for international evenings.
Taking the girls abroad is a great fun part of Guiding and an amazing adventure for all concerned. Some girls who have never ventured out of Devon get the chance to experience their first flight, first time abroad, etc with their friends and of course making new friends throughout the trip.

Girlguiding International Opportunities
Below is information on the different international opportunities available to Girlguiding members.
ICE (11 – 14 years)
ICE (International Community Experience) is to give girls a taste of community action, increase their global awareness and prepare them for international experiences. It offers the opportunity for personal development through community action linked with international experiences.
INTOPS (14 – 18 years)
INTOPS (International Opportunities) is a selection process for members of Guiding to be selected for international opportunities. There is a selection weekend each year which is usually for members aged 14 – 18 however some years this age range can change dependent on the trips being offered.
There are three stages to the selection process for INTOPS in Devon, not all members who apply will go through every stage.
See document below – INTOPS FAQ’s
Adult INTOPS (18+)
Adult INTOPs is a fantastic opportunity to lead a South West Region international adventure.
There is a selection weekend at Region level where trips are allocated. Following this you are able to attend the South West region INTOPS selection weekend to interview potential young members for your trip.
Application forms can be downloaded from the South West Region website.
GOLD – Guiding Overseas Linked with Development (18 – 30 years)
Gold is all about projects overseas that make a lasting difference. These projects range from leadership skills training to delivering advocacy programmes to young women. Theses sustainable projects make sure that the positive impacts of GOLD are still felt after everyone has gone home – so they make a real difference!
